Big Fish Little Fish family raves are all about celebration, fun and freedom with your family. The BFLF crew are all seasoned clubbers and parents who are proud that they create parties that are as much for the adults as the children. Outdoors at festivals, and indoors in the clubs and pubs where they are held, the families dance and play under the lights, through the bubbles, glitter and with the parachute. There’s a craft area – run by Muddy Puddles blogger Captain Cookie – to draw, stick and create and a chillout space to relax with babies and let older children muck about in tents and tunnels.

The events are very much for people who want to share their love of dancing and socialising with their kids – one regular said he never thought he’d get to dance with his 3 year old to Aphex Twin, but now he had! Another describes BFLF as “responsible irresponsibility”.

Ten month old Miles enjoys the music and entertainment at the Big Fish Little Fish "2-4 Hour Party People" event in Brixton, South London, on April 12, 2014. Watching my own children’s response to music at the parties has been fascinating. They are now 5 and 4 years old, pogo to drum ‘n’bass and laugh when I jump around like a loon to the tweak of a 303. One BFLF first-timer credited BFLF with a huge developmental leap in his 5 year old who had been quite withdrawn but at a BFLF had found a love of bopping about with other children and had become more confident.

The kids also enjoy seeing their parents relaxed and acting daft – they’re at the age when they are yet to be embarrassed by mum or dad dancing.

I get to have this fun with my kids and a whole bunch of other family ravers on a regular basis. Seeing the parents dance with and hold their children aloft is lovely, even the DJs are moved by the experience. DJ Food tweeted this photo from the decks of the parachute dance and said it was the “maddest” crowd he’d ever played. High praise indeed.8

See you on the dance floor…Hannah xx
