8 Perfect Picnic Spots in the UK

What better way to celebrate the arrival of summer than with a family picnic? We’re spoilt for choice of gorgeous places to picnic in the UK from beaches to forests. We’ve put together some of our favourite places to help inspire a family picnic or two. Set out with the family this summer and enjoy the fantastic scenery while munching on some yummy goodies!

1) Seven Sisters, Seaford, East Sussex

Situated in the South Downs National Park, the Seven Sisters Country Park offers up a number of ideal picnic spots. When tummies are full, there’s a number of footpaths and trails to be explored, including an easy access trail better suited for pushchairs.

2) Tarn Hows, Lake District

Tarn Hows has plenty of spots to enjoy a picnic with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. There’s a family friendly path less than 2 miles in length, making it suitable for all the family to enjoy and it’s pushchair friendly. Fun fact: Beatrix Potter bought the Tarns in 1929 and sold the half that included Tarn Hows to the National Trust.

3) Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire

Reconnect with nature and explore the acres of ancient forest before enjoying a picnic, taking in the stunning scenery. There’s plenty of outdoor adventures to be had including Go Ape, a trip on the Perrygrove Railway and archery, among others.

4) Barafundle Bay, Pembrokeshire

This isolated, pristine, award winning beach is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle. Make sure you check the tide times before arriving. The beach is only accessible by a half mile walk from the nearest car park and there are a number of steps to get up and down from the cliff top so it’s worth packing light if you can!

5) Kew Gardens, London

Head to Kew Gardens with the family and picnic amongst the rose bushes, beneath the trees or in the Mediterranean Garden among other places. There’s a couple of onsite cafes where you can add yummy treats and hot drinks to your picnic and don’t forget a trip to the Children’s Garden with water features and play equipment, designed for children from 2 – 12 years of age.

6) Kielder Water, Northumberland

Enjoy views of the lake and the surrounding countryside while enjoying your picnic. There’s plenty to keep the family occupied including paddle-boarding and canoeing as well as stargazing at the Kielder Observatory. Fun fact: Kielder is England’s largest forest and the biggest man-made lake in Northern Europe.

7) Studland Beach, Dorset

After a delicious and picturesque picnic on the beach, why not grab a bucket and spade and see who can build the biggest sandcastle or play games on the huge stretch of sand? The area is home to two nature reserves and so keep your eyes peeled for a number of different bird species and native wildlife.

8) Tintagel Castle, Cornwall

The perfect picnic spot for growing explorers. Discover remains of the 13th century castle and take in the breath-taking views of this dramatic headland. After exploring the castle, head down to the beach below and take a paddle in the sea or explore the rockpools.
