So Alienor, tell us everything! What was the inspiration behind The Bright Company? When did it start? What are the products like?

After the birth of my first child I returned to work but found the demands of a busy job for a major fashion house was too much to handle with our new family dynamic. I wanted to keep working though and needed the creative outlet that work had provided. I had found a huge amount of amazing kids clothes out on the market whilst on maternity leave but really struggled to find PJs that matched up to the same standards, they either fit really badly or were just awful designs. So I decided to take my wealth of experience of working in a fashion house and use that to start a nightwear brand.

The Muddy Puddles collaboration is inspired by American sculptor Alexander Calder, how was it you discovered his work?

Calder’s mobiles have great place in my heart, I visited the exhibition at the Tate modern in London last year and was totally awestruck as to the beauty of his work and blow away by the scale of it all. I knew when I was there that his work with simple shapes was something that would translate really well into a print for us.

What are your favourite elements of the design?

I think a pac-a mac is a totally essential item of clothing for small kids, you will make use of it all year round, over different layers depending on the temperature. The fact it can fold into its own pocket is really fab, you can just chuck it in your bag just in-case it rains!

How does the jacket differ compared to some of the other Bright Company products?

The technicality of the jacket is fab, we work with fairly simple structures and materials and this jacket is totally the opposite of that, every detail has a technical feature.

And finally, tell us where you and your family love to explore? Do you have a favourite outdoor spot?

We live in Brighton on the south coast and getting outside is essential for us as a family. Every weekend we make sure to go on an outdoor adventure, regardless of the time of year, either the beach or the South Downs for a walk. We often brave showers, that is the beauty of living in the UK but we just chuck our jackets and wellies on and embrace it. We notice a marked difference in our children’s behaviour when we get them outside; they are much happier and calmer afterwards.
