5 Lovely Things To Do Outside On Mother’s DayMarch 22, 2022 • Get Outdoors
Mothering Sunday is a celebration all about mums! So whoever mum is to you, we believe they deserve to be treated on this special day.
So after all the treats, breakfast in bed (we hope!) and presents, why not spend some time outdoors with the family? Here are 5 ways to spend this Mother’s Day outside.
1) A walk in nature
Kit up the children, switch off your phone and set off on an adventure with the family in your local area. If you live in the countryside then a walk in the woods or in the fields with your growing explorers is a great way to start the day. If you live in the city, visit the nearest park or look for the hidden gems in your area. It’s the perfect time to spot the welcoming signs of Spring like daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses.
2) Pack a picnic
It’s the perfect opportunity to put together a yummy picnic filled with yours and your family’s favourite foods and find a lovely spot in your local area to enjoy it together. If your children are old enough, let them prepare a simple Mother’s Day treat like this passionfruit tart from ByRuby.
3) Take a family bike ride
Get the whole crew up and moving around with a fun bike ride in your local area. While your little explorers pedal away their excess energy, you’ll have the chance to take in the sights. You can ask the children to help map out a route beforehand and even plan a few fun stops for refreshments and a picnic to replenish energy levels on the way. It’s a great way to get the whole family involved and at the end there is a great sense of achievement too.
4) Set up a scavenger hunt
Get the little ones involved in putting together a scavenger hunt list. You could do this in the garden or on a walk. Play independently or divide the family into teams and race to complete the list. We love the idea of including items like finding a flower to give to Mum. Alternatively you could try a photo scavenger hunt where instead of finding and bringing home objects, children take a photo of them.
5) Start a garden of your own
Set up a new Mother’s Day tradition by planting a selection of different flowers in your garden. Now is the perfect time to plant summer-flowering bulbs. Perhaps each of your children could plant a different kind. Every time you see them flower, they will be a reminder of the special day — it’s the gift that keeps on giving!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful Mums! 💐
