10 Best Family-Friendly Festivals (2019)


We have taken the hard work of trudging through the array on various festivals which are on all across the UK this summer and have whittled them down into a main line up for you!

Here are our 10 favourite family-friendly festivals to go to with your children this year.

1) Camp Bestival, 25th – 28th July, Dorset

Hailed as the family-friendly festival of choice by families all across the UK, Camp Bestival prides itself on ensuring that it’s equally geared towards and suited for both parents and children. A large section of the festival site is devoted to the little ones with the Upper Kid’s Garden on the lawn behind the castle particularly suited to giving them a bit of freedom to explore. The Lower Kids Garden is packed full of entertainment for slightly older children. Activities in these gardens range from an Insect Circus and a soft play tent to vintage fairground rides and face painting.

2) Latitude Festival, 18th – 21st July, Henham Park, Suffolk 

Latitude is among the biggest of the family-friendly festivals and there is a lot to see and do. Latitude’s ‘Best Family Festival’ Award (UK Festival Awards) is testament to the huge array of family-friendly activities available for children and parents alike. There is a wealth of activities around the gorgeous central lake, including crafts in the Woodcraft Tent, family singalongs and pond-dipping. For older kids there are more grown-up activities to take part in at the Inbetweeners’ Teen Area.

As well as a stellar line-up of acts including George Ezra, Snow Patrol and Lana Del Rey, the musical acts alone are enough to draw any music lover to the wonderful lakeside location. To add to the acts there is a huge focus on the arts with a packed theatre schedule ranging from comedy and theatre performed on hidden woodland stages, to as many gourmet food stalls as one can imagine.

3) Beautiful Days, 16th – 18th August, Escot Park, Devon

Describing itself as a family festival, Beautiful Days in Devon is a charming little festival that aims to have a family and community atmosphere.

On top of music, there is a whole array of theatre, comedy and spoken word, plus healing fields, art and sculptures to enjoy.
The Children’s Area at Beautiful Days is co-ordinated by Majical Youth Theatre. There are lots of activities, hands-on workshops and entertainment all weekend long for children of all ages to enjoy. Ranging from crafts, theatre, dressing-up, circus, rides, story-telling, music and craft workshops, comedy and face painting, the list goes on and on!

4) Just So Festival, 16th – 18th August, Rode Hall, Cheshire

Only one word can describe this festival –  fun! The eccentric, family friendly, majestic, mad, interactive, wonderful world of Just So Festival is enough to catch any punter’s attention. A community and interactive spirit is the main focus of this magical festival. With circus shows and workshops, theatre performances and classes, a spellbinding forest, huge puppets and decorations adorning the land, this festival is what dreams are made of.

5) Starry Skies, 31st July – 4th August, Cwm Cayo Farm, Wales

With the Starry Skies festival tag line reading ‘Where the kids roam free’, this festival from the outset is a terrific choice for family friendly fun. Starting out from the idea that more often then not, parents feel like they need a holiday after bringing the kids on holiday. Their mission is to provide lots for children to do in a safe environment, knowing that happy kids means happy parents! There are lots of activities and workshops for everyone to join in and share their ideas and experiences.

The festival itself is unique in that the major emphasis is not placed on huge line up acts, but instead it centres around arts, crafts, drama spectaculars, campfire cooking lessons, adventure climbing courses, woodland playgrounds, canoeing, giant sandpits, animal farms, cycling adventures, and some old fashioned pubs for the parents, or yoga lessons if that is more your thing!

5) Standon Calling, 25th – 28th July, Hertfordshire

You can expect lots of fun, family-friendly activities at Standon Calling. From circus tricks and theatre shows to building an adventure park, your children will be entertained and taken care of. There is also a dedicated family camping field for those who need an earlier bedtime. Parents will love the Wild Well-being Area with yoga classes, relaxing treatments and much more.

6) The Big Feastival, 23rd – 25th August, Alex James’ Farm, The Cotswolds

7) The Cornbury Music Festival, 5th – 7th July, The Great Tew Park, Oxfordshire

The Cornbury festival is tailor-made for the whole family and there is something for everyone to look forward to. The fantastic Kids Zone offers lots of activities, workshops and shows to keep your children entertained – from ukulele workshops and salsa to magic shows and face painting.

10) Timber, 5th – 7th July, Feanedock, The National Forest, Midlands
